It depends on usage. For roles with heavy document and e-mail work (sales, marketing, executive, HR), early pilots typically show meaningful time savings. For roles with limited information work, ROI is weaker. We recommend pilot cohort with metrics before broad rollout.
Microsoft's commercial Copilot does not train on tenant data and respects existing permissions — the EUDB (EU Data Boundary) commitments apply to commercial customers. But Copilot reads what the user can read; if your SharePoint has open access to sensitive folders, Copilot surfaces them. The governance work (Sensitivity Labels, DLP, permission review) is mandatory pre-rollout.
They're different products. Copilot is embedded in M365 with tenant-grounded retrieval (semantic index). ChatGPT Enterprise is standalone. For organizations on M365, Copilot integration depth typically wins. For organizations not on M365, ChatGPT Enterprise or other LLMs may fit better.
